Starting Your Own Horse to saddle with Josh Knight

Learn the art of starting a horse under saddle, step by step, guided by Josh Knight.

Program

In this time we will go through our step by step program ensuring a smooth transition to saddle. We will complete all of the necessary steps from the ground, mouthing process and first rides from round pen to the arena.

✨ There will also be the option to continue with a further 2-week block if requested. This extension focuses on furthering the horse’s education, improving body control and softness under saddle, with the option to begin taking them out beyond the arena.

✨ Outcome: By the end, your horse should be soft, supple, and well-prepared for their new life under saddle. Some horses may need a rest earlier—Josh will adjust the program to suit.

 

Requirements:

• Your own horse

• Your own gear- we will provide a list

• Pass our readiness checklist

• Physically able

• Be confident enough to participate and take direction

• Ensure you can put yourself first and have the 2 weeks available to learn

• Extra support available if your skills need refining

💰 Investment:

• $3,800 for the initial 2 week program 

• This program is offered by Expression of Interest (EOI). Please note this is a highly in-depth learning experience, much like attending a study program. It requires significant time, effort, and commitment. While not inexpensive, the value lies in the depth of knowledge, one-on-one guidance, and the rare opportunity to gain hands-on skills in starting your own horse and beyond. Also a great opportunity for those wanting to get out into the field of horse starting or those who already are taking on client horses and are looking to improve or up skill.
